Donald H. Rumsfeld - Defense Secretary (DOD)

Born : on July 9, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois.

Education/Profession : Received a B.A. in Politics from Princeton University in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator from 1954-1957. Became active in government in 1958 when he worked as Administrative Assistant to Congressman Dave Dennison of Ohio. In 1959, he became a Staff Assistant to then Congressman Robert Griffin of Michigan. From 1960 to 1962., he was with the Chicago investment banking firm of A. G. Becker and Company.

Party : Republican

Political experience : Assistant to the President by President Ford on September 27, 1974. In this capacity, he serves as a member of the Cabinet, Director of the White House Office of Operations, and Coordinator of the White House Staff. In 1962, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives from the Thirteenth District of Illinois to serve in the Eighty-Eighth Congress. He was re-elected by large majorities in 1964, 1966, and 1968. In 1969, he resigned his seat in the House to join the Cabinet as an Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity. In December of 1970, he was named Counselor to the President and in October 1971, he was appointed Director of the Cost of Living Council. Named United States Ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in February 1973.

Norman Y. Mineta - Transportation Secretary

Born : on November 12, 1931 in San Jose to Japanese immigrant parents.

Education/Profession : Bachelor of Science degree in Business at the University of California-Berkeley in 1953. He served as an Army military intelligence officer during tours of duty in Japan and Korea. Upon returning to San Jose he worked at the Mineta Insurance Agency, which his father had founded in 1920.

Party : Democrat

Political Experience : In 1962, joined San Jose's Human Relations Commission. Later, he became the first ethnic minority to serve on the San Jose City Council, then Vice Mayor, and in 1971 was elected to become the first APA mayor of a major American city. In 1967, he became the first Asian Pacific American Member of the City Council of his hometown of San Jose, California. While serving in the Congress, Mineta founded the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and served as its first Chair. He was first elected to Congress in 1974 to represent Silicon Valley. In 1993, Mineta became Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Public Works and Transportation. Retired in October 1995, after 21 years in the House of Representatives. Became the 33rd Secretary of Commerce on July 21, 2000.

Paul H. O’Neill - Treasury Secretary

Born : December 4, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Education/Profession : Received a B.A. degree in economics from Fresno State College and a master's degree in public administration from Indiana University. Additionally, he participated in graduate study programs in economics at Claremont Graduate School and George Washington University. / Began his career as an engineer for Morrison-Knudsen, Inc. in Anchorage, Alaska. He worked as a computer systems analyst with the U.S. Veterans Administration from 1961 to 1966 and served on the staff of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget from 1967 to 1977.
