Norman Y. Mineta - Transportation Secretary Born : on November 12, 1931 in San Jose to Japanese immigrant parents. He served as an Army military intelligence officer during tours of duty in Japan and Korea. Upon returning to San Jose he worked at the Mineta Insurance Agency, which his father had founded in 1920.
